The CANTIENICA® method first corrects the pelvic alignment, then the leg axis. Bowlegs (except in the case of riders) occur when the lower edge of the pelvis is positioned too far forward relative to the sacroiliac joints. In most cases, the entire thigh bones and lower leg bones are rotated outward, the knees are positioned much too wide apart, and they point away from the legs. Meniscus damage on the inner sides of the knees is inevitable.
By realigning and mobilizing the pelvic joints and strengthening the entire pelvic musculature—which is interconnected with the levator ani—bowlegs can be corrected. Riders learn how to externally rotate their thigh muscles—without rotating the bones within them—while riding, and how to internally rotate their lower leg bones in response.
